The Charleston House on the Plaza

Type of Cuisine: Low Country

Ron & Patsy Jones Goodwin opened The Charleston House on the Plaza in May 2004. Located in historic Plaza Midwood, The Charleston House offers a rare combination of warm hospitality and comfort food.

Some of the restaurant's dishes originated with Ron's mother, Sarah Goodwin, whose catering skills were sought-after for many Charleston functions. Ron often watched his mother as she prepared her specialties, learning early on about the culinary arts.

History and culture influence a region's food choices, and this is certainly true of the cuisine featured at The Charleston House where the menu reflects the heritage of the Low Country. Descendents of West African slaves brought the Gullah and Geechee ancestral traditions to the magic of their recipes. Their cooking style is rich in shellfish and grains.

Both lunch and dinner can be ordered from the menu. Lunch selections include sandwiches (served with fries), She Crab Soup or soup of the day, salads, and lunch plates. At lunch, diners may also enjoy the buffet, with an array of Low Country favorites. The dinner menu ranges from Folly Island Shrimp & Grits to Sarah's Barbecue Ribs , with many selections in between.

In the tradition of his mother, Ron offers up his culinary skills through catering. The restaurant may be rented for wedding celebrations, theme parties, office functions, dinner and cocktail parties, or any event that is special to you. And if you prefer, that great Low Country food can be brought to your location. Wherever you are, you'll enjoy!
