Many Americans think all Latin food is Mexican, but such is not the case at Pollos Mario. There the menu offers authentic Colombian fare, although some traditional Mexican items are included as well (enchiladas, burritos, fajitas).

Pollos Mario restaurants can be found in New York , New Jersey , and Florida ; all are owned by an extended family. Colombia natives Daniel and Estela Fandino own the Charlotte restaurant; John Vasquez serves as their “right-hand man.”

“Pollos” is the Spanish word for “chicken” and, as you would expect, the menu at Pollos Mario offers a nice selection of Colombian chicken entrees. In fact, an entire section is devoted to “Escepcialidades de Pollo” - chicken specialties. The recommendation from Daniel, Estela, and John? The Bandeja Con Pollo (chicken plate).

You'll find Colombian steak and pork specialties in the Platos Tipicos (Typical Dishes) section. The menu also includes sopas (soups); antojitos (appetizers); ordenes adicionales (side orders including fried plantains, yuca fritas, pork crackling, pork sausage, and others); and mariscos (seafood).

Although Pollos Mario opened just two years ago, the restaurant's hours recently expanded - to include breakfast! Served from 8:00 until 11:30 am, the breakfast menu offers 14 plated meals of traditional Colombian foods. Many of the dishes (eggs, potatoes, beans and rice) are made with sautéed tomatoes and green onions. And because chocolate (hot) is a popular breakfast drink in Colombia , it's served with your meal.

¡Como para chuparse los dedo! “Eat in order to suck your fingers!” or in other words, “Finger-licking good!” That's Pollos Mario!
