This intimate gem of a restaurant has been serving some of Charlotte 's best Italian fare since 1996. Owners Gino Villano, Giosue Coppola and manager Scotto Mauro are native to Naples , Italy and also spent some time in the New York area before arriving in Charlotte . Creations are inspired by the beautiful Italian countryside where “tradition is framed in a timeless passion for food.”

In keeping with their Italian heritage, the mission is to use the highest quality ingredients in the best original Italian recipes and to treat customers with warmth and attention. With a blend of passion and full devotion to serving only the finest dishes with attentive service, Portofino 's has long been a consistent stand-out in the Charlotte restaurant scene. Among their numerous recognitions locally and beyond, they have been awarded “Best Italian Restaurant” and “Best Pizza” in Charlotte by City Best and have many other recognitions and mentions.

When you come to Portofino 's, expect to come away fully contented as portions are generous. On the menu you'll find a wide array of pasta, seafood and antipasto as well as traditional Italian American comfort food classics such as lasagna and eggplant parmesan. A couple of noteworthy dishes are the Chicken Portofino's and Salmon Mediterraneo. Portofino 's also serves up some of Charlotte 's best pizza and many rejoice when finally finding that exceptional pie they remember from “back home.” Also noteworthy are the salads with a homemade house dressing, fresh, artisan bread and homemade delectable desserts.

East Charlotte 's Eastway Drive location is the original location. Due to the restaurant's popularity, Portofino 's expanded in 2003 to the Park Selwyn Shopping Center on Park Rd. in SouthPark and is thriving. You can also find other bustling locations of the restaurant in the Ayrsley Town Center (near South Tryon St. ) in Southwest Charlotte and on E. Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia .
