Taste of Havana

Type of Cuisine: Cuban

Nicaraguan native Carol Torrez and her mother Basilia Valle own the 150-seat Taste of Havana restaurant. Here they feature recipes of their family's Cuban ancestors, for dine-in or for take out. On Saturday evenings, live Latin music is also featured.

Daily lunch specials are offered Monday through Friday from 11:30 am – 3:00 pm. Each lunch special includes white rice, black beans, and fried plantains.

If you're in the mood for a sandwich, Taste of Havana offers six (6) Cuban sandwiches. Each sandwich is made with that famous Cuban bread known as Pan Cubano. Sandwiches remain on the menu all day.

Carol and Basilia also present a wide range of entrees, including “Cuban Specials” (such as Oxtails in Wine Sauce, Palomilla Steak, Fried Chicken Cuban Style), steaks, fish and seafood, poultry, and rice dishes. The rice dishes are “for two” and are such a treat they require 45 minutes preparation! On Fridays, Todos los Viernes is featured as an entree special – grilled fish filet topped with fresh mango and pineapple in a sweet sauce.

Side dishes of note include fried green plantains, yuca with mojo, and mixed black beans and rice (which the Cubans call moros y Cristianos - “the moors and the Christians”). And don't forget dessert, especially the flan in your choice of egg, cheese, or coconut.

The best way to end your meal at Taste of Havana is with a taste of that rich Cuban coffee. Plain Cuban coffee is available, as is Cortadito (Cuban coffee with a little milk). And if you enjoy lattés, be sure to try the Cuban version, Café con Leche. A true taste of Havana at Taste of Havana – from the first bite to the last sip
