When you enter Dim Sum on Central Avenue, please take time to experience the beautiful canvas, a painting that in many ways illustrates the heartbeat of east Charlotte--our story. The painting, "Growth," features a beautiful tree with its roots reaching deep and its branches, high.  On the roots are written the word "growth" in languages from throughout the world.

Pictured are two young figures with paint brushes--one painting the leaves and one, the roots--working together creatively, helping each other. The birds are cranes, which are celebrated in Asian, African and Latin American cultures to bring good luck.  The birds symbolize a sense of journey, transition, transformation. The paper birds become actual cranes, emphasizing the change from intuition to fruition.

And why the word "growth"?  According to the artist, Duy Huynh, the root of any kind of growth is a sense of pride, understanding, and willingness to work with others. The author sees our community in the process of maturing as people of different backgrounds grow in mutual understanding and respect--and through cooperation and teamwork, neighborhoods, businesses, communities grow.

This inspiring art work was made possible through the Arts and Science Council working with artist Duy Huynh, who created this painting specifically for this space.  Once created, the print was enlarged and placed on canvas. The original painting is located in the entrance area of the building where Neighborhood and Business Services is located. To learn more about Duy Huynh’s paintings, you may go to www.larkandkey.com.
