A native North Carolinian, Louise Woods has lived in Charlotte East for almost 50 years. She loves promoting the strengths of its neighborhoods, the vibrancy of its people, the outreach of its churches, its multicultural schools, and restaurants. Throughout the years, Louise has helped to initiate TAPS for pregnant teens; PALS for seniors; and COTWLC Multi-Cultural, Dual Language Preschool at her church, Central United Methodist. Foremost, schools are her passion. Inspired by fellow Eastsiders who supported pairing schools for diversity, Louise became active in civic affairs including the League of Women Voters and the Committee of 25, CMS’s first Equity Committee.
As District 4 CMS Board of Education representative and NCSBA Board member, Louise continued working for strong CMS and NC public schools, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities in Charlotte East. Louise is a past multi-term Co-Chair of CharlotteEAST. On the CharlotteEast Board, Louise has worked with others to develop guidelines for Eastland redevelopment, advocate for Charlotte East schools, organize Taste of the World restaurants, and promote CrossCharlotte Trail, Phase II.
In her spare time, Louise enjoys working with immigrants at her church, gardening, traveling, and most of all, having fun with her grandchildren, Kathryne, Mary, Eli, and Drew!
